High potential and gifted education (HPGE)
At Snowy Valleys School, we implement the New South Wales Department of Education's High Potential and Gifted Education Policy
We deliver high-quality learning experiences for all students across various domains. Our focus is on developing each student's potential through tailored lessons and extension activities. We draw on the expertise of our staff and offer a variety of extracurricular programs and cross-school partnerships to provide students with a broad range of opportunities both within and beyond our school.
We support our students through:

In our classroom
- Safe and supportive learning environments that encourage confidence and safe risk-taking, helping students to overcome challenges and build resilience.
- Development of differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity, and encourage higher-order thinking skills, ensuring each student is appropriately challenged and engaged in their learning journey.
Across our school
- Our school provides opportunities for student voice and student advocacy, including the student representative council.
- Our Transition to Work program supports the development of workforce skills by offering students practical, hands-on experience in retail operations, fostering responsibility, teamwork, and customer service abilities.
- We engage students in external TAFE opportunities to develop independence and foster problem-solving skills.
Across NSW
- Our school participates in opportunities including the Premier’s sporting challenges.
- The Sports Unit offers a diverse range of learning opportunities across the domains of potential. Our students participate in a range of offerings provided by the Sports Unit like Multi-Sport days.
- Our school has previously engaged with The Arts Unit and auditioned for School’s Spectacular to showcase student talent in the D’Arts classification.
